We Belong to Christ

Everyone belongs to someone whether it is family or a friend. Christians belong to more than just an earthly someone; we also belong to Christ. When we accepted Him as our personal Saviour, we became His. But, not only Christ’s, we also belong to God because Christ is God’s according to I Corinthians 3:23.

And ye are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s.

I love this verse! It is simply put, we belong to Christ. There is nothing that can change this. I know there are people in the world who have a difficult time understanding this, but then there are those who are like me who knows what the Bible says and believes it, but trying to wrap our brain around how a perfect, holy God loves us so much that He does not give up on us even when we choose to step a little too far away from him for a season, it’s astounding.

The first year I taught third grade, I had the granddaughter of a well-known pastor in our area. She could not understand what belonging to God meant and how nothing could change it. I gave the girl a penny and told her to place it in my hand. I closed my hand around it and kept a tight grip on the penny. As I was trying to explain what happens when we are placed in God’s hand, I had her try with all her might to open my hand; she couldn’t do it. I was able to explain how once we become a child of God, we are placed in His hand and nothing or no one can take us out no matter what. There is nothing we can do that will cause God to put us out of His hand; we are His child for all time.
