Following the Star - What are You Searching For?

Have you ever followed half written directions to somewhere or a partially drawn map? I have. Thankfully, the Lord blessed me with a sense of direction so I’m pretty good with directions and maps. It is something I can proudly say came from my father. Not everyone can easily follow directions or maps, so it makes you wonder how they are going to get to their destination.

Before I cracked down on trying to be more organized, I found myself in the middle of a search and rescue plenty of times searching for favorite toys and lost socks. There are still times I find myself needing a search party to help me find things. Believe it or not, some of the time, I’m wondering around asking myself, just where is that something.

Following the Star – What Are You Searching For?

I love the story of the birth of Jesus. The promised Saviour who came to save you and me. Everything about the event is amazing!
The part about the wise men has always intrigued me because there is so much the Bible doesn’t tell about them. One thing the Bible tells is they were wise. These men were educated and knew the prophecies of the Old Testament. They knew why they were following the star and what they would find. (Matthew 2:1-2) Their trek was not a trip around the block. That star, it was a “Supernatural announcement of a Supernatural Birth” as Henry H. Halley described. So when they saw the star, they knew they had to follow it.
Are you searching for something that is lost?
Being the advocate for a wayward loved one is not easy. Just like the woman in the parable of the lost coin (Luke 15:8-9), you must have the determination to continue searching for that loved one. While you are not actually searching for them, you are interceding on their behalf for God to do a miraculous work in their life. Once your loved one has been found, you can rejoice and ask others to join you in this time of happiness.
Are you lost searching for what is to be found?
Fear, hopelessness, and loss of faith are all real things. If you’re struggling with one or all of them, then you are probably searching for an answer. I understand there are times when medical intervention is necessary. But until everything about oneself is turned over to the Lord, (even the fear, hopeless, loss of faith) there will always be a searching for an answer. (Jeremiah 29:12-14)
In this life, there is only one true answer to what we are searching – the Lord. When you turn everything about your life over to the Lord, you don’t have to worry about being left alone to live life. (Hebrews 13:5) He will be with you every step of the way.
Whatever you may be searching for, I pray you find it. May I suggest to you, if you are searching for happiness or contentment in this life, search the Lord. When you find him, you will be amazed at all you find in him.
Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:3
